Vehicles in German City Discovered Marked with Swastikas in Blood, Law Enforcement Report

Police reported they were alerted by a individual who found a vehicle in Hanau covered with reddish liquid

Approximately fifty cars have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.

Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they announced in a official communication.

Officers state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued liquid.

The substance had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they stated.

Police then found numerous other marked vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.

Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.

Officials say preliminary tests suggest the substance was most likely human blood.

"There is still no indication as to its origin; officials are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in relation with the occurrence," they stated.

City officials stated they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have requested to the public for information.

A senior political figure said the vandalism made him stunned and had to be addressed quickly.

"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on online, recalling the death of nine people by a gunman targeting individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
