A senior officer that leaped to the aid of a partner that got attacked by a blade-wielder received the King's Commendation for Valor.
Sergeant Tim Ansell fought with 27-year-old Jacob Brown after he placed a blade to the throat of his partner Sgt Marc Foster.
Brown began the violence as the policemen and their colleague, Police Constable Marcus Wolstencroft, were conversing to a motorist following a traffic accident in that location in summer 2023.
Brown attacked with blade the two Sgt Ansell and Sergeant Foster before PC Wolstencroft incapacitated him with a stun gun.
"Officer stabbed," PC Wolstencroft stated over his communication device.
Officer-mounted and dashboard camera recording shared by the agency showed Brown, that was clothed in black with a head covered, rush to Sgt Foster from the rear with a blade extended.
He ran into the officer who tripped and fell to the ground, after which Sergeant Ansell intervened and attempted to subdue him to the floor despite being continually attacked with the knife.
PC Wolstencroft drew his Taser and waited for a clear shot, ending the fight to an end.
Sergeant Ansell can be heard to say: "I need something on my neck now, I've been stabbed in the throat."
Sgt Ansell received two open wounds to his throat and additional injuries to his arms and body, whereas Sgt Foster experienced knife wounds.
Officials reported Sgt Foster employed his hands to control his colleague's hemorrhaging before medical personnel reached the scene.
The latest award arrives subsequent to the law enforcement team received internal Valor Recognitions in fall 2023 and the prestigious bravery honor from the regional Police Federation in early 2024.
They additionally received a North West Valor Recognition in summer 2024.
