Ex- Federal Bureau of Investigation director James the ex-FBI chief has pleaded not guilty to giving untrue testimony to lawmakers and hindering a legislative process.

His legal representative submitted the plea representing him in a national courtroom in Alexandria, Virginia on Wednesday.

The defense lawyer declared he would try to have the proceedings terminated for multiple causes including that his client, a detractor of former President Trump, was being selectively prosecuted.

James Comey was formally accused shortly after Donald Trump pressured his attorney general to proceed against him.

Legal Proceedings

At the proceedings on Wednesday, the defense counsel Patrick Fitzgerald advised the court they planned to submit multiple petitions to throw out the legal matter before a legal hearing, arguing the prosecution was spiteful and that a US attorney was wrongfully assigned to assume control of the case.

The former director's case was initially handled by the original attorney, who resigned under scrutiny from Trump after his probe into an additional opponent - NY AG Letitia James - was unable to initiate prosecution.

Courtroom Atmosphere

James Comey came across in positive mood as he entered the court on Wednesday, conversing with his legal team and making jokes. He was supported by his spouse, Patrice Failor and offspring Maureen, a government attorney who the Trump administration terminated.

Following the reading to the judge read his legal protections and the dual charges against him in legal proceedings on mid-week, the defendant was asked if he understood the accusations.

"Absolutely your honour. Thank you," he informed the proceedings.

Historical Information

Mr Comey was the head of the FBI from four years and was fired about several months into Donald Trump's first term as national leader. At the period, the director was directing an probe into foreign election meddling and whether there were any links between the Russian government and the presidential campaign.

While in office, James Comey caused a backlash from Democrats when he declared just days before the 2016 election that he was investigating political contender the candidate's use of a personal email system. Indictments against the candidate were never brought, leading to negative feedback from the Republican party as well.

Current Allegations

Government attorneys assert Mr Comey provided false information to Congress during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing in recent years when he was being examined about both the Clinton investigation as well as the Russia election probe. They say he provided false information to the legislative body by stating he had not authorized someone at the FBI to release to media organizations details about the agency probes.

Prosecutors also accuse the defendant of "wrongfully trying to affect, block and impede" the panel by making false statements to it.

Personal Comments

Via social media the former director shared to his Instagram after he was indicted, he said he was not guilty and alleged Donald Trump of behaving like a "autocrat".

"My family and I have known for a long time that there are costs to challenging the former president," he commented. "We refuse to live on our knees."
"I am not guilty," he continued. "So let's have a legal proceeding."

These allegations against James Comey came after Donald Trump published on digital channels insisting on his attorney general, Ms Bondi, prosecute the former director and additional individuals.
